Introduction
About
Digital Image Processing
The
Digital Image Processing
package is a
Mathematica
application package for digital image processing. Designed for speed and functionality, the package features a comprehensive collection of over 200 functions for common image processing measurement, analysis, and enhancement tasks. The package is primarily aimed at the image processing professional, but should appeal to a broad range of professionals and
Mathematica
enthusiasts. Image processing professionals should benefit from the package's extensive functionality, especially when combined with the ease-of-use and power of the
Mathematica
language. Professionals and students with no imaging background should benefit from the comprehensive online tutorial, which includes a detailed discussion of image processing theory and numerous examples of common image processing tasks. The tutorial should allow most new users to quickly acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to solve many common, as well as one-of-a-kind image processing problems.
System Requirements
The
Digital Image Processing
application package requires
Mathematica
6 or later.
About the Documentation
The
Digital Image Processing
package comes with extensive documentation. The documentation is easily accessible by means of the
Mathematica
Help Browser. It is divided into two parts: a User's Guide and a Function Index. The two parts of the documentation are designed to be complementary in addressing various user needs.
The User's Guide is a combination digital image processing tutorial and detailed introduction to the functionality of the package. The User's Guide contains numerous usage examples, but more importantly, it also covers the theory behind many of the functions in the package. A number of sections covering special topics are included. These sections explain a few fundamental theoretical concepts of 1D and 2D signal theory. The User's Guide is directed to all new users of the package, but should be especially valuable to users with little or no prior experience with image processing.
The Function Index is the primary reference tool for the package. All the functions and symbols are listed in alphabetical order. Each function's description includes detailed usage information and examples. (In the
Mathematica
Help Browser, click the cell icon in the Example section header to open the examples section.)
