2.4 Pole Assignment with State Feedback

Since the least-order system matrix representation of the distillation column generated in Section 2.3 is in state-space form, the corresponding state-space model can be readily constructed.

Here is the resulting 9th-order state-space model.

In[1]:=
In[2]:=
Out[3]=

These are the poles (eigenvalues) of this model.

In[4]:=
Out[5]=

These are the desired closed-loop poles, produced by replacing the two slowest open-loop poles by poles at -0.01.

In[6]:=
Out[7]=

This is a full-rank state-feedback compensator such that the resulting closed-loop system will have the desired poles (see Section 6.3).

In[8]:=
In[9]:=
Out[10]=

This closes the feedback loop.

In[11]:=
In[12]:=
Out[13]=

The constant state-feedback compensator has achieved the desired closed-loop system poles.

Out[15]=
