Mathematica Installation Instructions

Installation instructions provide you with complete installation help for all Mathematica products. As such, it is a convenient resource for system administrators who must install Mathematica on a variety of platforms or for anyone who has a Mathematica CD and needs help putting it on a hard drive.

We'll be adding more installation instructions for our products as additional specialized installation help is needed. Check this site frequently for updates and corrections.

Which installation instructions do I need for Mathematica?

Besides knowing the type of computer on which you're going to install Mathematica, you need to decide the type of licensing scheme you have. You have two choices.

  1. Single Machine
With a single-machine license, Mathematica is installed on a single machine and is licensed to run on that machine alone. A password specific to the machine will be required during the installation.

  2. Network Based
With a network-based license, Mathematica can be installed on several machines while a special machine, the license server, runs the Mathematica license manager (MathLM). MathLM keeps track of how many copies of Mathematica are running and allows one computer to keep track of license usage across many machines. During installation, you need to provide only the name of the machine running MathLM.
