3.4 Installing Mathematica as a MathLM Client on Mac OS XTo install Mathematica on Mac OS X in the Applications folder, you must log on as administrator. - Insert the Mathematica CD. Then double-click the Mathematica 5.1.dmg icon that appears on your desktop. A new window appears on your screen.
- Drag the Mathematica 5.1 icon from this window to the location on your hard drive where you want to install it. In order for all users to have access to Mathematica, you should install it in the systemwide Applications folder. You must log on as administrator to do this.
- When all files have been copied, double-click the Mathematica icon on your hard drive to launch the program.
- Mathematica starts up and the following dialog box appears. Select Network License. Then enter the name or IP address of the MathLM license server in the text field provided.
- Click OK. Mathematica launches and is ready for use.
After you install Mathematica you may place the Mathematica icon into the Dock for easier access. To do this, start Mathematica, and hold down the key while clicking the Mathematica icon in the Dock. In the pop-up menu that appears, choose Keep in Dock. Running Mathematica on Mac OS XTo run Mathematica using a network password, both the client machine and the license server must be on the network and MathLM must be running. If this is not the case, you can run Mathematica by entering a single-machine password in the front end (see Section 4.3.1, Entering a Single-Machine Password in the Front End). To launch Mathematica:Double-click the Mathematica icon in the directory where Mathematica is installed. Alternatively, if you have placed the Mathematica icon in the Dock, single-click the icon. To launch only the Mathematica kernel:Open the Terminal application and type the full pathname of the MathKernel binary in the window that appears. For example, if you installed Mathematica in the Applications folder, type /Applications/Mathematica\ 5.1.app/Contents/MacOS/MathKernel in a Terminal window and press .
