2.3.2 Running off a File Server

To run a copy of Mathematica installed on a remote file server:

1. Mount the file server on your machine.

2. Locate the Mathematica directory on the file server.

3. Double-click the Mathematica icon.

The executable is downloaded over the network and loaded into the RAM on your machine; you can therefore run Mathematica without having any files installed locally. This may be desirable, for example, to conserve disk space. However, it is recommended that you install the Mathematica fonts and the MathLink libraries locally as these may be needed in special cases. See Section 2.2.3 for details.
